Here’s a new etching inspired by the poem “Bard” written by Bork S. Nerdrum, a haunting winter story of a young boy who follows his father into battle. Please check out the poem and the full feature over at Sivilisasjonen, and use your browser to translate from Norwegian.

This etching marks the first time I have experimented with a soft ground, in addition to my usual hard ground. You can see the softer, pencil-like tonal qualities of the soft ground in the blood, clothing, and background. Every attempt was met with a disaster that I had to scrape down and try to correct, but it is always fun and worthwhile exploring the wide range of ways of intaglio techniques.
I am now selling some work through Pinakoteket, an online gallery run by Bork S. Nerdrum and Carl W. Korsnes that promotes classical figurative painters and draftsmen. Their mission is make it easier for collectors to find this kind of work and to support makers by taking only a modest 10% commission. ‘The Shot Child’ print can be purchased at the link below.
And as always, this print is also available here in my shop.
